THE SOUND OF STUFF WORKSHOP
Practical techniques to amplify physical materials and found objects allow us to listen to the material and use it as an instrument or a musical object. Using DIY contact microphones and electromagnetic pick-ups we will amplify and play with various stuff, from kitchenware, metal scraps and recycled leftovers to hair dryers, electric shavers, cameras and air conditioners!
Duration >> 2 - 4 hrs
Participants >> 5 - 15, can be optimised for kids [a more playful version] or adults [including basic electronics and constructing contact mics].
Material and technical requirements >> Speakers, sound mixer. Participants should bring a variety of objects, both electric and nonelectric (examples above). For contact mics: piezo elements, male jack connectors, insulated double strand electric wire, snips, pliers, solder, soldering irons, hot glue gun.
