CADAVRE
[Performance, Open Instrument, 2009-2014]
The deconstruction of an instrument is a ritual, it allows first to meditate along with dismantling and then dance the celebration of decay. Cadavre is the harp of an old piano that couldn't be repaired. By baring the instrument from its traditional use a new instrument emerges, and by adopting it, a process of decomposition and recomposition occurs.
Cadavre is a Musical performance created by manipulating the form and sounds of the piano and bringing it to a new functionality. The structure allows a wide range of frequencies and manipulation of their form and tuning. Bridges are placed in order to allow the usage of bows, which add to the playing means of mallets, bare hands, and other material. Part of the strings are tuned in order to enhance the harmonic phenomena. It is amplified with guitar pickups or contact microphones while the speakers are situated in the close vicinity of the sound box. Our work as performers is to follow the puppet's behavior, activate the beast, make it sing its own song through actions of the body.
The Project was originally initiated by Yaniv Schönfeld, in Early 2014 Tomer Damsky has joined as an active ingredient in thought, construction and performance.
